If you have DTEWorld DSL service you may want to modify your system's Internet settings to better accommodate your high speed access.
If you are using dial-up access is doesn't hurt to do a little maintenance once in while to free-up your machine resources. Clearing cache memory is perhaps one of the simpler ways to free up Internet resources below is a list of popular browser versions and instructions on clearing cache memory.
For Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.0, 4.01, 4.5, and 5.0 for Macintosh®
- Click Edit, and select Preferences on the Internet Explorer menu bar.
- Click the arrow beside Web Browser.
- Click Advanced.
- Click Empty Now.
For Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.0
- Click Start, select Settings and Control Panel.
- Double-click Internet Options to open Internet Properties.
- Click the General tab.
- Click Delete Files.
- Click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
- Click OK.
For Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.0
- Click Start, select Settings and Control Panel.
- Double-click Internet Options to open Internet Properties.
- Click the General tab.
- Click Delete Files.
- Click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
- Click OK.
For Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0
- Click Start, select Settings and Control Panel.
- Double-click Internet Options to open Internet Properties.
- Click the General tab.
- Click Delete Files.
NOTE: Do not select Delete Cookies. Delete Files removes all the cookies stored on the computer.
- Click OK on the Delete Files dialog box.
- Click OK.
For Netscape® Communicator / Navigator 4.0
- Click Edit, and select Preferences on the Netscape menu bar.
- Click Advanced.
- Click Cache.
- Click the Clear Memory Cache button.
- Click the Clear Disk Cache button.
- Click OK.
For Netscape® Communicator / Navigator 6.0
- Click Edit, and select Preferences on the Netscape menu bar.
- Click Advanced.
- Click Cache.
- Click the Clear Memory Cache button.
- Click the Clear Disk Cache button.
- Click OK.
For Netscape® Communicator / Navigator 7.0
- Click Edit, and select Preferences on the Netscape menu bar.
- Click Advanced.
- Click Cache.
- Click the Clear Memory Cache button.
- Click the Clear Disk Cache button.
- Click OK.
Another housekeeping process can help to free up additional space on your hard drive, making your system operate at the optimum speed.
Use Disk Cleanup
- Click the Start button located at the lower left hand corner of the screen.
- In the new menu window slide your mouse cursor to the Programs option
- Next slide your cursor to the Accessories option
- Next slide your cursor to the System Tools option.
- Next select (click) the Disk Cleanup option
- Select the (C:) drive and click the OK button
The program will calculate the amount of free space that can be freed on the selected drive. Depending on your computer usage and the types of programs running on your system you may want to run Disk Cleanup on a weekly or bi-monthly basis.
When you run Disk Cleanup you may also want to check your hard drive to learn if it is time to de-fragment your drive. The System Tool will run analyze your drive to determine if the De-fragmentation tool is needed.
Use Disk Defragmenter
- Click the Start button located at the lower left hand corner of the screen.
- In the new menu window slide your mouse cursor to the Programs option
- Next slide your cursor to the Accessories option
- Next slide your cursor to the System Tools option.
- Next select (click) the Disk Defragmenter option
- Select the (C:) drive and click the Analyze button
The utility will scan the selected drive and tell you if De-fragmentation is needed. If needed at the prompt click Defragment, this can take some time so be patient and let the tool do its work.
